Képzése: had + az ige 3. alakja
+ He had finished the garden work before it started to rain.
- He had not finished the garden work before it started to rain.
? Had he finished the garden work before it started to rain. - No, he had not.
+ Yes, he had.
Használata:
- egy múlt idejű cselekvés kezdete előtt már lezárult másik múlt idejű cselekvés kifejezésére (előidejűség)
Before she joined a pop group she had learnt singing. (Mielőtt belépett az együttesbe, már tanult énekelni.)
- az it/that was the first/last time kifejezés után
It was the last time I had visited her. (Ez volt az utolsó alkalom, hogy meglátogattam.)
- a before, until, when elöljárószavakkal: olyan cselekvés kifejezésére, amit a beszélő végre akart hajtani egy másik cselekvés előtt
We did not leave the museum, until we had seen everything. (Nem mentünk ki a múzeumból, amíg nem láttunk mindent.)
